Playing God

There were powerhouses in the society – political, religious, institutional, professional and so on. They needed and demanded allegiance and obedience from masses, without which they were powerless. They  played God to garner that allegiance. People had to pray to them for their rights, otherwise existence was in question.

All groups, above a critical mass for a given situation, wanted to be powerhouses.
